A month after the Korean War broke out, the incident occurred from Jul. 25th to 29th 1950 in Haga-ri and Nogeun-ri, Yeongdong-eup, Yeongdong-gun, south Choongcheong province as hundreds of villagers were walking along a railroad after being ordered to evacuate their homes by retreating U.S. soldiers.
About 500 ~ 600 residents mainly from Jugok-ri and Imgye-ri were evacuating their homes to hide themselves in Imgye-ri and Anjeom on Jul. 23rd, according to the US army’s order.
